LOGISTICS & TRAVEL POLICY
Pringle of Scotland aims to reduce its impact on the global environment as much as possible and recognises the need for a travel and transport policy, encompassing business travel, freight and logistics to achieve this. This policy should be distributed to all employees and new joiners as guidance.
Freight
- Incoming freight should be booked through our Logistic Parter, Torque Logistics.
- Raw materials and finished goods should be sent via sea or road wherever possible. DHL Economy road shipments should be used over DHL Express.
- Bulk air shipments must be approved by a Senior Manager or Board Director and only used if there is no other alternative.
- Deliveries from Europe should be sent via Road wherever possible.
- Packaging and materials should be sourced locally by the manufacturer where possible to avoid additional shipping. This included recycled and recyclable garment bags. Pringle’s Supplier Logistics manual outlines the specifications for all packaging and materials.
Ecommerce Logistics
- UK Web orders are shipped via DPD. Electric vehicles are used where possible and we receive quarterly and annual reports detailing the percentage of our parcels delivered on electric vehicles and the CO2 savings.
- International Air deliveries have been sent via DHL Express GoGreenPlus since May 2024 using sustainable Aviation fuel to reduce CO2 emissions by 50% reducing across all internation deliveries.
Company Travel
- Air Travel is only permitted where we are unable to conduct the meeting using any other means including Teams, Zoom, Google Meet or telephone. This includes supplier visits which needs to balance the requirement to ensure that suppliers adhere to our standards v. the need to minimise any long haul travel. Multiple suppliers should also be visited on a trip for maximum travel efficiency. Any air travel requests will need to be made in writing and approved by a Senior Manager or Board Director, and any applications need to explain why the meeting cannot be held remotely.
- Travel between London and Hawick should continue to be kept to a minimum, and the train used where practical.
- London travel should be limited to public transport where possible. Taxis are permissible when carrying heavy samples or travelling early in the morning or late at night.
- It is recommended that wherever possible, public transport should be used for commuting to and from the office in London.
