SS17 Tartan Revisited

Scottish tartan and check is as inherent to Pringle’s character as its dedication to knitwear. The Women’s Spring/Summer ‘17 collection explores layering, stitching and blending iconic check patterns. One series features patch-worked tartan, building ‘check upon check’ for a new visual texture.

“This collection is about being summery and effortless, but always with our DNA in mind. Pringle has such iconic patterns and fabrics in its archives, why reinvent when there is so much to revisit?” Fran Stringer, Women’s Design Director

Traditional Scottish tartan is associated with Highland dress; the colour and design different for each Scottish clan. The many historical interpretations of tartan and its significance to Scottish heritage and identity makes it naturally a part of Pringle’s story. Pringle’s iconic argyle pattern, made popular by the Duke of Windsor in the 1920s and still referenced today, was inspired by the grids and colours of a more traditional tartan design.
