Our Story
For over two centuries, Pringle of Scotland has been the heart of British luxury knitwear. Founded in 1815 in the Scottish Borders town of Hawick, our brand pioneered the evolution of knitwear fashion, creating designs that have graced everyone from British royalty to Hollywood icons.
Pringle introduced the world to the argyle sweater and the classic twinset, pieces that defined generations of effortless style and remain timeless symbols of elegance today.
Every Pringle creation carries the spirit of innovation that shaped our legacy — from the world’s first knitwear collections to contemporary designs crafted with the same precision and care.
As one of the world’s oldest heritage fashion brands, we continue to celebrate the artistry of craftsmanship, producing luxurious knitwear that’s soft, modern, and made to last.

Art Of Cashmere
Pringle is also a true pioneer in the world of cashmere, helping to elevate this soft and luxurious yarn into a cornerstone of modern fashion. From the earliest days of the brand, Pringle’s innovation and craftsmanship helped shape the perception of cashmere as a symbol of elegance, comfort, and quality.
The cashmere used by Pringle is sourced from the finest white fibres found on the underbelly and chest of mountain goats raised in the extreme climates of China and Tibet. The harsh winds, cold temperatures, and high altitudes are what make the fibres so soft, strong, and insulating. Once collected, the fibres are separated from the coarse outer hair, leaving only the softest cashmere behind. Each goat only provides a little fibre, adding to its rarity and value.
Pringle’s distinctive cashmere hand feel is not only the result of this high-quality yarn, but also a milling process perfected over generations. The precise tension, twist, and finishing techniques have been honed over more than two centuries. These allow the knit to soften and improve with time, wear, and care.
